Examining Stakeholder Participation in Social Stability Risk Assessment for Mega Projects using Network Analysis
This paper examines stakeholder participation in social stability risk assessment for mega projects in China from a network perspective. Using content analysis, the authors construct affiliation networks for compulsory procedures in social stability risk assessment and test hypotheses concerning stakeholder participation. Singular value decomposition is also used to explore additional influential factors. The study contributes to understanding participatory decision-making within a complex political and administrative setting and offers practical implications for improving stakeholder involvement in mega-project risk assessment.
Governmental Incentivization for SMEs’ Engagement in Disaster Resilience in Southeast Asia
This study examines how governments can strengthen the disaster resilience of small and medium enterprises in Southeast Asia, focusing on Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. SMEs provide a major share of employment but are often highly vulnerable because of financial, technological, and administrative constraints and limited preparedness knowledge. The authors assess the level of SME engagement in disaster resilience and identify policy gaps and opportunities. They argue that legislation, infrastructure, investment conditions, and well-designed government incentives can mobilize SMEs as a critical component of private-sector and community resilience.
This paper reviews the social, economic, and psychological impacts of natural disasters in Turkey, a country exposed to significant seismic activity as well as other geological, meteorological, biological, and technological hazards. The study emphasizes that disaster consequences extend beyond physical destruction to affect communities, livelihoods, social systems, and the national economy. It argues that stronger individual, governmental, and international cooperation mechanisms are necessary and calls for greater attention from social scientists to the human and societal dimensions of disasters in Turkey.
Preparing International Joint Project: use of Japanese flood hazard map in Bangladesh
This paper compares flood characteristics and disaster-risk-reduction practices in Japan and Bangladesh to show why technology transfer must be grounded in local hazard and social contexts. Japan commonly uses flood-hazard maps and warning systems because floods can be sudden and highly destructive, whereas Bangladesh relies on a different mix of adaptation practices shaped by prolonged inundation, agriculture, and local perceptions of rivers and floods. The authors argue that international joint projects should first understand differences in hazard dynamics, social conditions, and risk perception before transferring technologies such as Japanese flood-hazard maps.
This study examines citizens’ perceptions of fire risk in residential buildings in Belgrade. Based on 322 face-to-face interviews conducted in 2017, multivariate regression analysis identifies fear, age, employment status, income, and marital status as important predictors of perceived fire risk, while variables such as gender, education, and previous experience were not significant. Respondents who were older, married, more fearful, or had higher incomes generally perceived greater risk. The findings can support targeted educational programmes, awareness campaigns, and other measures intended to improve residential fire safety.
