Nature and Extent of Flood Risk Downstream of the Kubanni Dam, Kaduna State, Nigeria
This study uses Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques to identify communities, buildings, households, and population groups exposed to flooding downstream of the Kubanni Dam. The analysis identifies Tudun Jukun, Gyallesu, Tudun Wada, Hanwa, Sabon Gari, Zango, and the Government Reserved Area among the locations at greatest risk. The findings demonstrate the value of GIS-based flood-risk and vulnerability analysis for physical planning, preparedness, and disaster risk reduction.
Retrogressive or Misplaced Priorities? An Assessment of Public Expenditure for Food Security and Disaster Risk Reduction in Uganda
The paper examines public investment and expenditure for food security and disaster risk reduction in Uganda through a rights-based lens. Drawing on qualitative evidence and 56 key-informant interviews, it finds limited application of rights-based budgeting and inadequate expenditure relative to the country's disaster exposure. The study calls for stronger disaster-risk financing, increased agricultural investment, and better protection of vulnerable communities' right to adequate food.
Network Structure in Disaster Response: The Mediating Role of Coordination Within a Humanitarian Organizational Network in Uganda
This study investigates how humanitarian network structure affects disaster response in Uganda and whether coordination mediates that relationship. A cross-sectional quantitative survey involving 70 humanitarian organizations indicates that network structure influences response effectiveness and that coordination is a key mediating mechanism. Rescue Light Communication System (RLCS): Enhancing Emergency Signaling in Crisis Situations
The article presents the Rescue Light Communication System (RLCS), a color-based emergency signaling method integrated into the Krizor mobile application. Using an extended RYB model with white, the system assigns intuitive meanings to colors so users can communicate their condition visually during emergencies. RLCS is designed for offline use and potential digital or physical deployment, with future work focused on testing, standardization, and broader emergency applications.
Stray Dogs in Urban Bangladesh: A Zoonotic Disaster Risk and Policy Challenge

Impacts of Flooding Disaster Risk Management Policy For Resilience Building in Pastoral and Agro-pastoral Community: The Case of Dassenech, Southern Ethiopia
The article explores how disaster-risk management policies and strategies influence resilience among pastoral and agro-pastoral Dassenech communities in Ethiopia's lower Omo Valley. Integrating Disability into Disaster Management Education in India: A Critical Review

Understanding Ransomware Through the Lens of Disaster Risk: Implications for Cybersecurity and Economic Stability
The study conceptualizes ransomware as a disaster-risk problem with consequences extending beyond technical compromise to financial loss, operational disruption, reputational damage, critical-infrastructure vulnerability, and public trust. Assessing Agricultural Vulnerability to Climate Change: A Study on Flood-Induced Loss and Damage in Rajapur, Bardiya, Nepal
This study assesses agricultural loss and damage from the October 2021 flood in Rajapur Municipality, Nepal, using household surveys, focus groups, interviews, and secondary sources. It compares impacts across small, medium, and large farmers and documents substantial losses in crops, stored grain, livestock, land, and machinery. Although early warning and embankments helped reduce casualties, the findings show persistent livelihood and food-security vulnerability and the need for stronger agricultural flood-management strategies.
Domestic Hiking Tourism for Post-COVID Recovery and Transformation
The study examines domestic hiking tourism in Ethiopia as a mechanism for post-COVID tourism recovery and resilience. Interviews with 16 hiking organizers in Addis Ababa indicate that changing travel preferences, health awareness, digital media, and government initiatives supported growth, while regulatory gaps, health-protocol enforcement, and political instability constrained the sector. Predictors of Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Among Adult Residents in Selected Highly-Dense Barangays in Tondo, Manila
This descriptive correlational study examines disaster-response self-efficacy among 281 adults in highly dense barangays in Tondo, Manila. Multiple regression identifies community support, past disaster experience, perceived susceptibility, and monthly income as significant predictors, while several demographic factors show no significant association. Overall self-efficacy is high, but the results point to the importance of community-based preparedness, experience-informed interventions, and attention to economic constraints in vulnerable urban populations.
Female Gender Empowerment, Individualism, Collectivism, and Resilience: A Comparative Study in the Context of Disaster Risk Management
This comparative study explores relationships among gender empowerment, individualism, collectivism, and disaster resilience using international indicator datasets. Correlation and regression analyses are used to examine whether empowerment patterns are associated with cultural orientations and how those orientations relate to resilience. Guardians of Safety: Assessing Awareness and Preparedness of Teachers along with School Initiatives for Disaster Risk Reduction
A survey of 553 primary and secondary school teachers in Aligarh, India, evaluates awareness and preparedness for earthquakes and fire hazards. While many teachers know evacuation routes, substantially fewer have received practical training in earthquake safety techniques, fire extinguishers, alarms, or regular mock drills. Project DINGGIN: Empowering Communities through Risk‐Based and Inclusive Cash Transfer in Disaster‐Prone Areas in Bangladesh and Philippines
Project DINGGIN develops a risk-based, community-informed cash-transfer framework for disaster-prone communities in Albay, Philippines, and Bhola, Bangladesh. Participatory risk mapping, surveys, focus groups, interviews, and a decision-support dashboard connect local risk information with policy and humanitarian frameworks. The pilot suggests that tailored cash values addressing shelter, food, and livelihoods can improve equity, ownership, coordination, and long-term resilience, while highlighting the need for phased support, financial literacy, and adaptive disbursement.
The paper proposes a technology-enhanced life-safety jacket for flood rescuers using Internet of Things components, wireless sensor networks, GPS, oxygen-level monitoring, and real-time communication. Ensuring Disaster Management Practices in Academic Libraries of Ghana: The Issues at Hand
A descriptive survey of a technical university community in Ghana examines disaster-management practices in academic libraries. Of 455 questionnaires distributed, 443 were analyzed, showing generally positive relationships between disaster causes, technological approaches, policy, and management practices. The study recommends greater attention to hazards ranging from flooding and fire to cyber incidents and pests, alongside wider use of alarms, detectors, extinguishers, CCTV, and formal disaster-recovery plans and policies.
University Students’ Perception, Knowledge, and Preparedness of Flood Disaster Risk Management in Assam (India)
This quantitative study assesses flood-risk perception, knowledge, and preparedness among 50 postgraduate and doctoral students in Assam, India. Although respondents demonstrate substantial awareness of flood vulnerability and weather alerts, practical preparedness is weaker, including limited evacuation drills, emergency contacts, and knowledge of community warning signals. The findings identify a gap between theoretical awareness and action and recommend curricular drills, local educational tools, and stronger community-institution partnerships.

Teachers’ Perception Towards Responses of COVID-19 Pandemic Management in Gandaki Province of Nepal: A Cross-Sectional Survey

From Vulnerability to Resilience: A Systematic Review of Odisha's Integrated Approach to Disaster Risk Reduction
This systematic review examines Odisha's transformation from reactive disaster response toward proactive, resilience-centered governance following the 1999 Super Cyclone. Using a PRISMA-based review of 40 sources, it assesses reforms including OSDMA, early-warning systems, cyclone shelters, evacuation planning, and community participation. Although fatalities have declined, challenges remain in last-mile warning connectivity and intensifying climate hazards. The study highlights mangrove restoration, community programs, technological integration, decentralized governance, and sustainable recovery as priorities.
