Dima Hasao, Assam (India) landslides’ 2022: A lesson learnt
During the 2022 monsoon season, Dima Hasao District in Assam experienced a series of destructive landslides that damaged property and newly developed transport infrastructure. The study explains the event through a combination of natural susceptibility—including extreme monsoon rainfall, tectonic stress, and sedimentary geology—and human pressures associated with road and railway construction. It argues for a neo-deterministic approach that combines environmental understanding with practical countermeasures, stronger communication, government–community cooperation, and sustainable planning in landslide-prone areas.
Risk Management of Gas Stations that Urban Expansion Crept into in the Gaza Strip.
This study analyzes risks created when dense urban expansion surrounds liquefied-petroleum-gas stations in the Gaza Strip. A descriptive and analytical approach, supported by ALOHA chemical-hazard modelling, is used to examine leakage, fire, and explosion scenarios and the vulnerability of nearby buildings and communities. The findings show that risk radii vary according to tank size, weather conditions, and surrounding building density. The paper recommends correcting unsafe station conditions, strengthening isolation and protection systems, and narrowing the gap between safety science and operational practice.
The article reviews Algeria’s legal, institutional, and planning framework for flood prevention and disaster management. It examines land-use legislation, insurance, drainage and dam safety, construction standards, infrastructure, public hygiene, environmental protection, emergency response, early warning, information, maintenance, and public awareness. The analysis identifies late policy attention, limited flood-risk mapping, weak control of irregular urban expansion, unclear local-authority responsibilities, and insufficient specialized response capacity. Historical flood plans, remote sensing, and improved modelling are proposed as tools for stronger prevention and urban protection.
Students’ perception of police readiness to respond to disasters caused by a COVID-19 pandemic
The study examines how students of the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies perceive police readiness to respond to emergencies caused by infectious-disease pandemics. Using a modified survey instrument derived from earlier research, it evaluates perceptions of police actions during COVID-19 and preparedness for future pandemics. The research highlights the need to understand police operational capacity in public-health emergencies and to strengthen training, organization, and preparedness for complex disaster situations in which law-enforcement institutions have important response responsibilities.
The Challenges of Women in Post-disaster Health Management: A Study in Khulna District
This quantitative study investigates the challenges women face in post-disaster health management in North Kamarkhola village, Dacope Upazila, Khulna District. Data from 199 respondents are analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including chi-square, correlation, regression, and related tests. Socioeconomic conditions, household resources, physical and mental health, and family size are associated with women’s post-disaster challenges. The study also identifies difficulties in accessing medical care, maintaining menstrual hygiene, and preventing increased violence against women after disasters.
Religion Influence on Disaster Risk Reduction: A case study of Serbia
This paper examines the relationship between religiosity and disaster risk reduction in Serbia. It considers how religious interpretations of natural hazards, fatalistic attitudes, spiritual practices, and the role of religious communities can shape preparedness, response, recovery, and public attitudes toward risk. The study emphasizes that religious communities may provide psychological, social, and financial support throughout the disaster-management cycle and explores how the degree of religiosity relates to different dimensions of disaster-risk-reduction policy and practice.
The Factors responsible for urban flooding in Karachi (A case study of DHA)
This study investigates the causes and consequences of the August 2020 urban flooding in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Karachi. Questionnaire data and GIS mapping of surface-drainage networks indicate that poorly maintained drainage was the principal cause, with Phase 6 particularly affected by land encroachment. Roads, electricity supply, mobility, and evacuation were disrupted by prolonged standing water. The findings are intended to support disaster planning, drainage management, urban development, and flood-risk-reduction strategies for Karachi and similar rapidly urbanizing environments.
