Methodology for Building Automated Systems for Monitoring Engineering (Load-Bearing) Structures, and Natural Hazards to Ensure Comprehensive Safety of Buildings and Constructions
This article presents a methodology for automated monitoring of engineering load-bearing structures and natural hazards in order to improve the comprehensive safety of buildings and constructions. It focuses on the risk created by deterioration and loss of structural operability and describes monitoring as a means of detecting dangerous changes before they lead to emergency conditions, structural failure, casualties, or major losses. The proposed approach supports continuous assessment, early warning, and preventive action in facilities exposed to technical and natural hazards.
Building resilience through local and international partnerships, Nigeria experiences
This study examines Nigeria’s experience in strengthening disaster resilience through cooperation among national institutions, international organizations, donor agencies, and non-governmental actors. Using the COVID-19 pandemic as a central context, it considers the local implications of a global crisis and the role of disaster diplomacy, foreign assistance, and institutional partnerships. The paper highlights programmes of the National Emergency Management Agency and international partners such as UNDP and the EU, and argues that stronger symbiotic relationships among states and agencies can improve disaster risk reduction and national resilience.
Pharmacy response to natural disasters
This paper examines the role of pharmacies in emergencies and catastrophic events and emphasizes their importance as a direct connection between communities and the wider healthcare system. During disasters, when hospitals and other medical institutions may be heavily mobilized, pharmacies can remain a critical first-line source of medicines, advice, and continuity of care. The authors stress that appropriate institutional requirements and continuous professional education of pharmacy staff are essential for effective emergency response, with the COVID-19 pandemic illustrating the sector’s indispensable role.
