    Dear Readers and Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure and honor to present the manual “Client Security and Protection in High-Risk Zones” (Sicherheit und Schutz von Klienten in Hochrisikozonen / Obezbeđenje i zaštita klijenta u zoni visokog bezbednosnog rizika) by Nikola Vračević, an outstanding work that comprehensively and systematically illuminates the complex field of security under the most demanding operational conditions.

Published by the Scientific-Professional Society for Disaster Risk Management, this manual is not just a collection of theoretical insights; it is a unique guide designed to help professionals effectively address real challenges encountered while working in high-risk areas. The result of years of research and practical experience by the author, the manual covers a wide range of topics—from fundamental definitions to advanced strategies and tactics. With a detailed and thorough approach to every aspect of security, the author takes us through the intricate world of organizing specialist teams, technical solutions, and operational procedures that form the foundation of successful security operations.

One of the most significant features of this work is its ability to balance theory and practice. Through clear definitions, analyses, and concrete real-life examples, readers gain not only knowledge but also practical guidance for applying what they have learned. This manual addresses key challenges faced by security teams—from risk assessment to threat response—with special attention given to differences in approaches between the public and private security sectors. In his work, the author thoroughly examines the organization and equipment of specialist teams. Through detailed descriptions, readers can gain insights into the functionality of ballistic vests, technical specifications of communication devices, specialized vehicles, and medical kits. Practical advice, illustrations, and described techniques for positioning operatives further enhance the usefulness of this manual for professionals at all levels—from beginners to seasoned experts.

A special segment is dedicated to the analysis of real incidents, shedding light on attacker tactics, team responses, and key lessons learned from these situations. These examples provide valuable insights that can significantly improve the planning and execution of security missions, particularly under demanding circumstances. Additionally, reconnaissance procedures, route planning, convoy organization, and responses to attacks—essential topics for security professionals—are elaborated in detail. A significant portion of the manual focuses on tactical medicine, including the role of medical technicians and life-saving emergency procedures during critical moments. Furthermore, the author introduces the challenges and specifics of helicopter operations, explaining key aspects such as selecting landing locations, protecting clients during evacuations, and adaptable tactics for operatives.

What makes this work exceptional is its ability to inspire. Beyond educating and informing, the manual motivates readers to adopt the highest professional standards and innovative practices, thus advancing the entire security sector.

I express my deep gratitude to the author, Nikola Vračević, whose expertise and dedication were instrumental in creating this significant work. I also extend my thanks to the team of collaborators whose knowledge and efforts contributed to the realization of this manual—from reviewers and editors to technical preparation and publishing experts. Their commitment ensured that this work achieved the highest level of professionalism.

I am confident that this manual will become an indispensable resource for security professionals and the broader expert community. Its depth and practicality make it a tool that not only enhances skills but also fosters further professional development. I believe this work will contribute to more efficient operations and the development of new standards in client protection.
