The book begins with an examination of the theoretical and conceptual foundations of disaster risk management, providing the reader with a clear insight into the development of this scientific discipline, its basic concepts, subject of study, the most important theoretical approaches, and the methodological foundations of research. Special attention is devoted to the place of risk management within the broader framework of disaster studies, as well as to understanding the contemporary challenges posed by complex, interconnected, and dynamic risks.

As President of the Scientific-Professional Society for Disaster Risk Management (SPS-DRM), I lead a non-governmental, non-profit association dedicated to advancing scientific and professional knowledge and practice in disaster risk management, emergencies, security, protection, and community resilience through research, publishing, education, expert analyses, and international cooperation. Through our journals (including the International Journal of Disaster Risk Management), projects, conferences, trainings, and digital platforms, we connect researchers and practitioners and translate evidence into practical tools, standards, and solutions that strengthen prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
